Chinese large blue and white ovoid jar, Kangxi (1662-1722), decorated in a bright underglaze cobalt blue with four alternating panels containing blooming peony and prunus issuing from rockwork, with birds and insects in flight overhead; divided by straps of cellular ground; the shoulders and foot with large ruyi-shaped lappets containing scrolling lotus, the foot with a band of foliate quatrefoils and the base with double circle in underglaze blue.
