Like all Chinese porcelain imported to Europe in the eighteenth century, famille rose teawares were expensive and highly prized. The softness of the pink enamels was especially popular in Britain, with notable owners of famille rose teawares including Dr. Samuel Johnson (1709-84). His massive teapot, decorated with roses and scrolling gilt patterns, has a capacity of almost three litres and can now be found in the collection of the British Museum (Franks.597.+)
