Dutch delft blue and white dish, c. 1750, decorated in the centre with Aphrodite (Venus) catching the wind in her sail, standing on an orb (possibly a pearl), near the shore of a wooded landscape, diameter: 13 1/2in. 34.3cm; condition: cracked across and restored. A dish in the Ashmolean Museum from the Gerald Reitlinger bequest depicts the same scene in reverse after an allegory by Jan Amos Comenius (1592 - 1670), accession number WA1978.187.
