Chinese famille rose lighthouse chocolate pot and a cover, Qianlong (1736-95), of tall tapering form with spout and side-handle, decorated in overglaze enamels to one side with a beribboned basket of flowering peony and various other archaic-form vessels filled with flowers and fruits, scrolls and a low table with further vessels, the other side with a square jardinière containing flowering peony and lotus, the rim with a rich band of alternating pomegranate-shaped cartouches containing either a lotus head against a blue ground or peony head against a scrolling iron-red ground, the spout and handle with wisps of cloud, the domed lid with a further band of pomegranate cartouches containing flowerheads against alternating blue and red scroll grounds, the rim with a narrow band of geometric stiff-leaf pattern.
