Italian Montelupo plate, 16th century, decorated with a geometric interlace of four lozenges alternating four rhomboids grouped around a central rhomboid within a square, diameter: 8 1/8in., 20.1cm; condition: fritting to rim, drill hole to top. A similar plate is illustrated in Thornton & Wilson, 'Italian Renaissance Ceramics: A Catalogue of the British Museum', Vol. I., p 214, pl. 134. A simialr plate can also be found in the British Museum Collection, accession no. 1899,0508.53. SOLD
