Large Japanese Kakiemon blue and white dish with foliate rim, early 18th century, decorated with a man and his boy holding a parasol looking across a river at a lady holding a fan beside her attendant, with pine, prunus, bamboo and two birds, in the foreground a fisherman with his nets, the reverse with a meander scroll and with a fuku (happiness) mark to base, diameter: 13 5/8in., 34.6cm; condition: small chips to rim, firing faults. A similar dish from the collection of the Duke of Portland can now be seen in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, 1978.716 and is illustrated in Ayers, Impey & Mallet, 'Porcelain for Palaces' (1990), p. 158, pl. 134.
