Small Japanese Kakiemon octagonal bowl, 17th century, with flat spreading rim turned up at the edge, decorated with sprays of peony and chrysanthemum, the inner rim with scrolling foliage, diameter: 4 1/2in., 11.5cm; condition: restored. A similar bowl can be found in the Rijksmuseum Collection, object no. AK-NM-6400. A similar shaped bowl is also illustrated in Ayers, Impey & Mallet, 'Porcelain for Palaces: the Fashion for Japan in Europe', the Oriental Ceramic Society (1990), p. 155, pl. 128. SOLD
