Pair of Japanese Imari octagonal dishes, c.1700, each decorated to the central roundel with a baluster vase of foliate peony and chrysanthemum, the cavetto and wide rim with alternating shaped panels containing either a crouching shishi dog amongst peony or a ho-ho bird in flight amongst pine and cherry blossom, against a dark blue ground with peony heads, scrolling gilt foliage and smaller reserve cartouches containing ho-ho birds or cherry blossom, the reverse with floral boughs
