Antique Chinese & Japanese PorcelainEuropean Ceramics & Works of Art
Pair of Chinese famille verte biscuit parrots, Kangxi (1662-1722), standing upon pierced rockwork bases with wings folded, height: 6 5/8in. (16.7cm.). Similarly moulded parrots can be found in the Royal Collection and are illustrated in Ayers, John, 'Chinese and Japanese Works of Art in the Collection of her Majesty the Queen', Vol. I, pp. 254-5, pl. 540-543. According to William Sargent (1192, p. 92, no.38) such porcelain parrots were first produced during the Kangxi emperor's reign to meet a Western demand for such objects. SOLD
