Pair of Japanese Arita octagonal cups, Edo period (circa 1700-1720), the bodies decorated with eight panels of chrysanthemum, peony, lotus and plum floral sprays, the rim with a narrow band of iron-red ‘classic scroll’, the foot with narrow concentric bands of red, the interior with a single flower-head; diameter: 2 7/8in. (7.5cm.) height: 2 1/2in. (7.5cm.). Provenance: from the collection of Soame Jenyns (1904-1976). For a comparable example see the Victoria and Albert Museum, no. FE.81-1970. SOLD
