Japanese Arita blue and white jar and cover, circa 1680, the body decorated with a continuous landscape scene of a pair of herons in the branches of a willow tree issuing from rockwork beneath swirling clouds, with a wide border to the shoulders of dense karakusa interspersed by peony flowerheads, the neck with stylised scrollwork, the cover with three roundels containing blossoming plants against a scrolling lotus ground, surmounted by a flattened knop.
