Japanese Imari bowl, early 18th Century, the rim gilded, the exterior decorated in underglaze blue, overglaze enamels and gilt with three sections containing hydrangea, chrysanthemum and peony flowers with foliage and grasses, divided by stylised baluster cartouches with peony heads and gilt foliage, the base encircled by a band with alternating floral cartouches interspersed by gilt foliate motif, the footrim with concentric circles in underglaze blue and a narrow band of crosses and circles in iron red; the interior decorated to the central roundel with a lotus head jardinière containing peony and a bough with blossom and trailing leaves upon a verandah, the sides with three further floral sprays
