Chinese blue and white tureen and cover, Qianlong (1736-95), of ovoid form, with plumed mask handles, the exterior of the bowl decorated with floral sprays with a diaper pattern to the rim, the domed cover decorated with a scalloped border to the rim with pendant floral sprays and stylised ruyi, surmounted by a pierced crown shaped finial set atop a high raised dome; diameter: 11 ¼ in. (28 cm.), diameter of basin: 8 ½ in. (21.5 cm.), height: 8 5/8 in. ( 22 cm.). This form of tureen is modelled after a Meissen original by Johann Friedrich Eberlein, circa 1737, see Ruckert, Rainer, 'Meissener Porzellan', p.148, pl.638. SOLD
