Rare Chinese famille verte ewer, Kangxi (1662-1722), the bulbous body decorated with lotus-leaf panels containing floral sprays, beneath a foliate lotus scrollwork border' flowers to the shoulder, the long tapering neck and curving spout similarly decorated with floral sprays issuing from the moulded base, the rim with lappets; height: 8 1/2 in. (21.7 cm.). This type of pouring vessel may be based on an earlier Kraak model which itself is a derivative of Islamic forms; it is more common in underglaze blue.
