Chinese famille verte baluster vase, Kangxi (1662-1722), the body decorated with opposing panels of two cranes and a hawk amidst crashing waves with flowering branches overhead, interspersed by fruit-shaped roundels containing either flowers or scholarly objects including archaistic-form vessels with feathers and coral, scrolls and a ruyi-head sceptre, all against a tightly scrolled green ground with large peony heads, the shoulder encircled by ruyi-heads and a yellow band below shaped cartouches containing further scholarly objects against a scrolling ground with large flowerheads, the neck with keyfret band in iron red and blooming peony sprays
