Large Japanese imari figure of an actor, Edo period, 18th century, standing with an alert expression decorated in overglaze enamels and underglaze blue, his robes painted with stylised leaves, bamboo and cloudscrolls, and flower heads, his inner robe fringed in red; height: 16 in. (41 cm.). Figures of a male actor are rare compared with the female bijan figures of entertainers and courtesans. SOLD
