Spanish Hispano Moresque lustre pottery charger, Valencia (probably Manises), early 16th century, the central boss containing a dragon enclosed by panels of fruiting branches and wheat-ears enclosed by an inscription, the alternate dividing lines painted in blue, the moulded and gadrooned cavetto with alternating grounds of network, solid and scrolling wheat-ear decoration, the reverse with enclosing concentric circles to the base within a wide border pattern of scrolling fern leaves, the rim pierced for hanging; diameter: 15 5/8 in.
