Japanese blue and white Arita dish, circa 1700, decorated in the Chinese kraak style, the central roundel with a ho-ho bird perched upon a rock with another in flight overhead, amongst flowers and pomegranate, the rim divided into six alternating panels containing peony with sprouting grasses or bamboo issuing from rockwork with plum, the reverse with spur marks

Condition:
Chip to the rim on the reverse and some glaze scratching to the back of the dish (please see images)
Notes:
Japanese dishes with similar decoration are known to have sometimes carried the V.O.C. monogram, as can be seen on the dish in the Princessehof Museum Collection, inv. no. 935.
