Dutch Delft blue and white drug jar, early 18th century, with the label 'B LUCATELL' within an elaborate cartouche surmounted by peacocks and a basket of flowers, height: 6 3/4in. 17.2cm, condition: chips and flaking to rim and foot. Locatelli balsamum ointment was made by an Italian physician Lodovico (d.1657) and was used to treat ulcers; it was made from various ingredients including red sandalwood, pine resin and olive oil.
