Japanese Imari lobed plate, circa 1700, painted to the centre in enamels and gilt with an idyllic landscape of thatched houses on a rocky shoreline, with overhanging pine and the peaks of distant mountains just visible, the wide rim decorated with cloud-shaped cartouches containing chrysanthemum heads, boughs of prunus and peony; the clouds parting to reveal an aerial scene of houses amongst pine and blossom.
