Pair of Japanese Imari lobed dishes, c.1720, decorated in the centre with a bird perched on rockwork, with a river and pine tree, the border with chrysanthemums and other flowers, with two lobed panels containing phoenixes, the reverse decorated with scrolling peonies.

This design was copied at Meissen in about 1740. A dish with the same design can be found in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (1995.268.66) and a dish with a similar design can be seen at the British Museum (Franks.38.a)
