Chinese blue and white barbed charger, Kangxi (1662-1722), painted in vivid tones of underglaze-blue with a stylised lotus medallion bordered by a ruyi-head band, with two radiating bands of decoration; the inner comprising twelve cartouches containing flowerheads and fruiting branches, the gently sloping everted rim with twelve further cartouches containing fruiting boughs, peony and chrysanthemum, the reverse with floral sprays and a central beribboned shell within concentric circles
