Massive Chinese Famille Verte Charger, Kangxi (1662-1722), decorated in bright enamels; the central roundel containing a basket of peonies encircled by a band of stiff leaves, the well with three rows of radiating ruyi-shaped cartouches with cash coin and flower head green stipple borders; the first with brightly coloured butterflies, the second with birds including waterfowl, pheasant and phoenix perching amongst peony, prunus and chrysanthemum, the third with further scenes of birds amongst flowers interspersed by smaller cartouches containing archaistic bronze-form vessels on lacquer stands; the rim with six cartouches containing chilong amongst wisps of cloud, between lotus-head roundels, all against a dense honeycomb-pattern ground in red and green; the reverse painted with a continuous scroll of flowerheads to the rim and a lingzhi mark within concentric circles to the base.
