Chinese armorial trencher salt, c.1770, Qianlong (1735-96), with the arms of Daniel of Tabley, of rectangular shape with canted corners and supported on a spreading octagonal base with hollow underside, decorated in overglaze enamels and gilt to the central well with the arms of Daniel of Tabley (Quarterly of four: 1 & 4 Argent, a pale lozengy Sable, 2 & 3 Argent, a panther statant and regardant Sable, crest: a unicorn's head couped Or, crined Argent); surrounded by a chain-link band in iron-red; the sides decorated with sprays of tropical flowers above a spearhead band in gilt.
