Antique Chinese & Japanese PorcelainEuropean Ceramics & Works of Art
Pair of blue and white petal-shaped lobed dishes, Kangxi (1662-1722), the central roundels painted in a bright underglaze blue with floral sprays of chrysanthemum and peony issuing from rockwork, encompassed by six radiating panels, alternately painted with a bird perching upon flowering prunus or flying insects with flowers, the bases with three floral boughs and a central 'yu' character within a double circle.
Dimensions:
Diameter: 15.6cm. (6 1/8in.)
Condition:
One dish with a faint hair-line
Notes:
The shape of these dishes is rare. The Chinese character 玉 (yu) is often translated to 'jade' but can also refer more generally to ancient, usually glossy, mineral materials, and indicates high value.
