Chinese famille rose jug and cover, Qianlong (1736-95) decorated with 'long Elizas' on a terrace and by a pavilion overlooking a river with flowering lotus, height: 7in., 18cm;
Neatly sealed hairline to rim and small area to spout filled, minute chip to cover restored.
For an illustrated example of a similar jug and cover see 'Chine de Commande' from the Royal Museum of Arts and History, Brussels p.74, pl. 75. The shape of this jug is derived from a European silver or faience model. The European influence on the jug can also be seen in the garland of flowers around the rim of the jug and cover.
