Pair of Japanese Imari bowls, early 18th century, each decorated to the exterior with an ogee-shaped panel containing a landscape scene with two figures looking out from a bridge at a rocky waterfall, small dwelling with pine and distant mountains, all against a dense ground of cherry blossom, clouds and swirling waves, the foot with a narrow band of blue wave pattern, the rim with a band of flowerheads and scrolling foliage in iron-red and gilt in reserve against a dark blue ground, the interior with further clouds and waves, with chrysanthemum, cherry blossom and foliage, the central roundel with a spray of peony; the base with a single floral spray within double circle in underglaze blue.
Condition:
One with faint hairline to rim and small chip to footrim, the other with a shallow chip to rim, some wear to enamels in central roundel.
