Italian maiolica apothecary pill pot and cover, Castel Durante, circa 1575, with label . P. D. BDELIO . (Gum resin) across the body below a roundel of a standing female figure standing on a dolphin holding a white sail cloth above her head (this figure is thought to be either Venus Marina, Fortune or Amphitrite), with conches, scrolls, musical instruments and a drum in ochre and white against a dark blue background, height: approx. 5 1/2in., 14cm.
