Extremely rare Chinese blue and white cylindrical jar, Chongzhen(1640-1643), decorated with a panel to each side one showing a scholar reading beneath a branch of a tree, the other with a gentleman and his attendants one holding a canopy and another a teapot, all against a cracked-ice ground with floral sprays, height: 10 5/8in. 27 cm. condition: Provenance: from the collection of Brodie and Enid Lodge of Flore House, Northamptonshire and thence by descent. For a vase with the same background decoration see lot 51 from the Hatcher collection sold by Chrisities Amsterdam; sale no. 2761 on 20th November 2007; this vase had a very degraded glaze. SOLD
