Pair of Japanese Imari figures of Bijin 'beauty', Edo period, late 17th/early 18th century, standing dressed in flowing robes decorated with floral designs and holding their sashes, height: 16 in., 41cm. Such figures were mostly made for export to Europe, where they were not recognized as Japanese porcelain until a much later date.
