Chinese blue and white bottle vase, Kangxi (1662-1722), decorated with two mythical beasts with forked tails and tufted heads above a band of waves, the neck with ribbon motifs and stiff leaves, the foot with lotus-scrolls, flower mark to base; height: 10 3/8in., 26.3 cm; condition: small restored chip to rim. These mythical beasts may have been inspired by European heraldic designs of lions.
