Chinese famille verte dish, Kangxi (1662-1722), depicting a dream scene from 'The Romance of the Western Chamber', decorated in the centre with the scholar Zhang asleep at his desk dreaming that of confronting the bandit who has kidnapped his love Yingying, the border decorated with six shaped cartouches containing sprays of flowers on a foliate ground, diameter: 14 1/16in., 35.7cm; condition: restored chip to rim and frits to rim. Note: The story has a happy ending as the young lovers are reunited with the help of a General. SOLD
