Venetian 'vetro a fili' glass jug 'biberon', 17th century, the glass with enclosed 'combed' white threads, the handle in the form of a sea-horse, with two blue glass threads around the rim and neck, height: 4 5/8in., 11.8cm; condition: chips to end of spout. Provenance: from a Private Collection, purchased from Frides Laméris, Amsterdam, 2004. A similar 'Biberon' with a different handle is illustrated in Tait, Hugh, 'The Golden Age of Venetian Glass', (British Museum 1979), p. 83, pl. 128. A wine glass with this combing and a similar handle is illustrated in the same book, p. 84, pl. 133. SOLD
