Pair of Chinese blue and white saucer dishes, Kangxi (1662-1722), decorated in the centre with two Dutch merchants accompanied by two servants holding a pipe, vase and stem-cup with a jardinière of flowers upon a table, rockwork, peony and pine, the border with foliate decoration, apocryphal Chenghua mark to base, diameter: 6 1/8in., 5.5cm; condition: good. Chinese porcelain with European merchant scenes were often personal to the original purchaser and brought to the West as souvenirs of their time in Canton and its environs.
