Ottoman Iznik border tile fragment, second half of the 16th century, painted in blue, turquoise, dark-bole red and white, decorated with a series of interlocking ogee-shaped lobes alternately containing stylized scrolling split-palmette (rumi) leaves and the same pattern repeated with cloud scrolls, length: 8 1/2in., 21.5cm. Similar border tiles can be seen in the interiors of a number of 16th century Ottoman mosques in Diyarbakir; such as the Behram Pasa Mosque designed by Sinan and constructed ca. 1564-1579/966-986 AH.
