Pair of Japanese blue and white baluster vases and covers, 17th century, decorated with a dignitary and his attendant crossing a bridge and a peacock perched upon rockwork and a phoenix in flight, all amongst branches of flowering shrubs, the shoulder with a band of stylized waves and lappets, the neck decorated with karakusa scroll, the cover with flowering shrubs and rockwork, height: approx. 20 1/2in., 52cm; condition: faint hairline to rim of one vase, some damage to covers.
