Chinese famille rose octagonal teapot, cover and tray, Qianlong (1736-95), the teapot of waisted baluster form and decorated in bright overglaze enamels with eight lobed cartouches in alternating yellow and pink each containing a lotus stem with curling leaves against a scrolling pattern, the rim with narrow red-cell band and small floral cartouches, the octagonal lid also with alternating lotus cartouches and surmounted by a floret knop, the tray of octagonal form and decorated with a central peony-head roundel and eight petal-shaped lotus cartouches in alternating yellow and pink radiating outwards, the rim with a narrow red-cell band and small floral cornice cartouches.
Condition:
Firing fault to rim of teapot, minute fritting to edge of spout, chip to base of cover, tray with shallow fritting to rim.
