Meissen dish in the Kakiemon style, mid 18th century, with a pierced Brandenstein-style cavetto, decorated with a squirrel on banded hedges with bamboo and vines, with a flying red fox above, with underglaze blue crossed-swords mark to base, SOLD
Diameter: 9 1/4in., 23.5cm;
minute frits to rim, firing crack to trellice.
A Japanese Kakiemon original with this motif can be seen in Shono (1973), pl. 35-6. A Meissen dinner plate with the same decoration is illustrated in den Blauuwen, Abraham L., 'Meissen Porcelain in the Rijksmuseum', p. 241, pl. 165.
