Chinese 'Company School' botanical watercolour, 19th century, on Chinese paper, with butterflies, caterpillars and insects on a leaf spray, dimensions of paper: 8 1/8in. x 10in. (20.5cm x 25.5cm); condition: good. Provenance: Sold in the studio of Cesare Maccari in Rome, Piazza Sallustio, 4–9 April 1921; passed to the Bargagli family Florence, and then to the Studio Bibliografico Vecchi Libri, Florence, and finally to an Italian private collection.
