Large Chinese Canton famille rose punch bowl, Daoguang (1820-1850), decorated to the exterior with rectangular panels framed in gilt key-fret, containing court ladies, dignitaries and soldiers in courtly pursuits in garden and terrace settings, against a ground of butterflies in flight, with blossoming peony, chrysanthemum and fruiting pomegranate and gourds, diameter: 15 15/16in., 40.4cm; condition: hairline and chip to rim, and part of footrim all restored to a high standard. A similar style punch bowl is illustrated in Ayers, John, 'Chinese and Japanese Works of Art in the Collection of Her Majesty the Queen' Vol II, p. 462, pl. 1216. SOLD
