Pair of Japanese Imari baluster vases and covers, c.1700, each with wide shoulders and flaring foot, each decorated in underglaze cobalt blue, overglaze enamels and gilt to the bodies with sprays of chrysanthemum and cherry blossom, the shoulders with a blue tasselled drape with gilt chrysanthemum scroll and inset shaped cartouches containing watery landscape scenes and further flowers in iron-red, the necks with a collar of iron red scrollwork and a blue band with gilt scrollwork and lotus heads, the covers with further blue tasselled drapes and inset cartouches, surmounted by large gilt flame-shaped finials
