Chinese polychrome armorial plate, Yongzheng c. 1730, decorated in the centre with the arms of Curzon(?), azure on a bend or three popinjays vert, the crest a pelican vulning herself vert, the cavetto decorated with flower cartouches against a diaper ground, the rim with branches of flowers with fans, diameter: 9 1/16in., 23cm; condition: some wear to gilding. The Curzon family has held land at Keddleston in Derbyshire since shortly after the Norman Conquest, as this example does not bear a coronet it was probably commissioned by a cousin of the 4th Baronet Sir Nathaniel Curzon.
