Japanese imari dish, Arita c. 1690-1720, decorated with a jardinière of peonies on a balustraded terrace, the cavetto with six floral cartouches against a blue and gilt ground, the rim with sprays of peony, chrysanthemum and hydrangea between three vase-like motifs, diameter: 11 1/4in., 29.7cm; condition: good. A dish with this design from the Augustus II 'the Strong' Collection is illustrated in Ayers, John, 'Chinese and Japanese Works of Art in the Collection of Her Majesty the Queen' Vol II, p.665, pl. 1617.
