Rare Chinese famille rose 'double peacock' octagonal tureen and cover, Qianlong (1736-95), decorated with a male peacock on a rocky outcrop displaying to a peahen standing at his side on a grassy terrace, with a pair of hare's head handles, the cover with the double peacock pattern with an elaborate flower-garland border and pomegranate-shaped knop, diameter of tureen: 11 1/8in., 28.2cm; For an illustrated example of a more standard 'double peacock's pattern tureen and cover, see Howard, David S., 'The Choice of the Private Trader' (1994), p. 115, pl. 112.
